Studies have shown that patients with good oral health live a more fulfilling and longer life. With each visit to our office, we provide you with the education and knowledge to help you obtain the best oral health possible.

Deep Scaling

While a standard cleaning will address the surface of the tooth, scaling goes deeper. To help patients prevent and control gum disease and excessive plaque buildup, we offer deep scaling. This treatment ensures all areas under your gums are reached to remove harmful bacteria, plaque and calculus. Studies have shown that bacteria causing gum disease repopulate every three months. Therefore, our regulatory bodies, including the Canadian Academy for Periodontology, recommend a three month recall program. For your comfort, we also offer scaling with freezing and twilight sedation. Our office is fully equipped and staffed with highly trained professionals to provide you with a wide range of sedation options from relaxation to complete sleep.

AntiBacterial Treatment

These procedures allow us to deliver anti-bacterial solutions even deeper under the gum line to kill harmful, hard to reach bacteria. This therapy aims to prevent periodontal disease resulting from infections, which can cause painful, bleeding gums and loosening of teeth.

AntiBacterial Treatment for Implants

Dental implants require special care. The best and only method to clean around dental implants to promote health and longevity is through regular treatments of antibacterial irrigation. Because bacteria repopulate every three months, this treatment is highly recommended at every three month recall appointment.

Fluoride

Fluoride treatment assists in preventing tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to plaque buildup. We offer custom fluoride application to strengthen your roots, reduce sensitivity and prevent decay.

Professional Polishing

Our specialized professional polishing helps minimize damage to your teeth, while selectively removing unsightly discoloration and stains.

How do you need to maintain your teeth?

For all patients, good oral hygiene and proper home care i.e.: brushing with an electric toothbrush and daily flossing are essential to achieving a healthy mouth. Our dental hygienist teaches oral hygiene instruction to our patients at every visit. However, periodontal issues are below the gum margin (subgingival), and so difficult or impossible for a patient to maintain on their own. As professionals, our hygienist is skilled in accessing deep areas that the patient simply cannot reach. Also, periodontal disease is not curable but it is controllable. For this reason, specialized hygiene care is necessary.

How is periodontal dental hygiene different?

  • Periodontal scaling requires more skill and expertise than a regular cleaning offered at a general dental office.
  • Periodontal scaling involves instrumentation of the crown and root surfaces of the teeth to remove deposits, toxins, and microorganisms below the gum line.
  • Our hygienist is vigilant in monitoring for signs of reactive disease long after the disease has been brought under control.
  • In addition to our expert dental hygiene program we also offer irrigation. This is a procedure where an antibacterial agent is administered below the margin of the gums. This technique has been proven to promote longevity in dental implants as well as natural teeth.

How often do you need to see a hygienist?

It is standard for patients with a history of periodontal disease and/or multiple dental implants or restorations to see a hygienist for maintenance every 3 months. Research shows that patients who are compliant with such a maintenance program have the best long-term periodontal results. We help you care for your teeth and implants. We also make sure that each patient has a specialized hygiene maintenance program, unique to his or her individual needs.
